Motorists traveling through Center City Philadelphia should anticipate several lane closures along Vine Street for the next several months due to construction associated with a new safety project.
PennDOT officials announced the $8.5 million project began on Monday, Aug. 18. Construction is expected to last through Jan. 16, 2026. According to PennDOT, lane closures will occur on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the intersection of Vine and Broad streets.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the project will focus on improving safety for bicyclists and pedestrians along the Vine Street corridor with the installation of , ADA-compliant ramps, bike lanes, sidewalk bump-outs, and upgraded traffic signals.
PennDOT reminds drivers to plan for extra travel time through the area due to construction.
