Following a significant fire that nearly destroyed their business, the crew at Sophie's BBQ in Havertown is back in action and delivering barbecue favorites to the area.

Sophie's BBQ takes its name after the daughter of owner and Executive Chef Greg Herman. Herman has been cooking since he was a teen. Following a career in fine dining, he answered a calling to return to the roots of barbecue.

Herman originally opened Sophie's BBQ in Ardmore but moved the business to Havertown in 2023, when Sophie's outgrew its Ardmore space.

Herman's menu features many barbecue standards and classic sides with creative culinary adaptations. Guests can enjoy a butterscotch swirl cornbread with orange honey vanilla butter, or chicken and waffles topped with honey-whipped ricotta, candied bacon, and a sweet potato waffle.

According to Action 6 News, Herman partners with Pennsylvania-based Four Birds Distilling for beverages. Sophie's BBQ also prepares special Philadelphia Eagles game-day packages that include party-sized servings of wings, ribs, and brisket cheesesteak sandwiches.

Look for a new event coming in September: Havertown Hog Roasts will run every Thursday in September, starting on Sept. 11.

Sophie's BBQ is at 1901 Darby Road in Havertown. It is open Monday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
