Fall into a good book this autumn with the Chester County Library in Exton. The third annual Library Card Sign-Up Fest encourages residents to explore the joys of reading by signing up for a library card.
The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chester County Library and District Center at 450 Exton Square Parkway in Exton. In recognition of Library Card Sign-Up Month, adults and children can enjoy free, family-friendly activities and programs. Parking is available in the garage across the street from the library or in any of the Exton Square Mall parking lots.
In addition to signing up for a library card, attendees will be able to participate in the following activities:
- Free KidSight vision screenings for children ages 3 to 6
- STEM and Makerspace activities
- LEGO brick building and play in a bubble zone
- Making bookmarks with Miss Pennsylvania Victoria Vespico
- Visits with the YMCA of Greater Brandywine's Zoo & STEM on Wheels
- Story time with State Sen. Carolyn Comitta at 1:15 p.m.
- Character visits from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- First responder meet-and-greet and touch-a-truck stations
- Free Maggie Moo's ice cream
Donations of new or gently used children's books will also be collected during the event. All donations will benefit Exton-area nonprofits.
The American Library Association (ALA) has held Library Card Sign-Up Month during September each year since 1987. The nationwide effort is designed to ensure every child can sign up for a library card.
“Libraries are more than just books. They are dynamic spaces that shape lives, foster connections, and provide opportunities for all,” Michael Skay, Chester County Library Board president, told the Daily Local News. “Whether through early literacy programs, job-seeker support, or lifelong learning initiatives, our libraries remain a cornerstone of community engagement and personal growth.”
