The Roxey Ballet has announced it is holding auditions for its 30th anniversary performance of The Nutcracker. Auditions will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, for dancers ages 4 and older at the Mill Ballet School, 46 N. Sugan Road, in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Rehearsals begin on Sept. 20.
Led by Founder and Artistic Director Mark Roxey, and co-led by Melissa Roxey, director of The Mill Ballet School and curriculum supervisor for Roxey Ballet, this year's production of The Nutcracker is a milestone event for the Roxey Ballet Company.
“This isn't just The Nutcracker — it's three decades of holiday memories, artistry, and community woven into a single, dazzling performance,” Mark Roxey shared with New Jersey Stage.
This year's performance of The Nutcracker will take place Nov. 29 and 30, and Dec. 5 (a relaxed children's matinee), 6, and 7 at the Villa Victoria Theater in Ewing, New Jersey. A special 30th anniversary celebration for cast and alumni will be held on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at The Mill Ballet School in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The special red-carpet event will include speeches, archival montages, refreshments, and reunions.
The Roxey Ballet was founded in 1995 as the Hunterdon Youth Ballet. Mark and Melissa Roxey, two professional dancers, introduced professional dance training and performance opportunities to Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Both performing artists worked for major American dance companies, including The Joffrey Ballet, American Repertory Ballet, and Dayton Ballet.
Over the past three decades, the Roxey Ballet Company has produced more than 70 performances and graced stages from New York to Washington, D.C. In 2008, the group performed at the 2008 presidential inauguration for Barack Obama.
