In an effort to make Pennsylvania's highways safer for all travelers, authorities in Berks County are ramping up enforcement to support child passenger safety and remove impaired drivers from the state's roadways.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program is coordinating DUI enforcement across multiple counties, including Berks, Northumberland, and Schuylkill. This initiative is supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
As part of this enforcement, police officers will conduct roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints to identify and remove impaired drivers from the roadways, while enforcing child passenger safety measures.
Authorities said that this enforcement is in response to an anticipated increase in alcohol and drug-related impairment during fall weekends and seasonal gatherings, according to Berks Weekly.
“The message is simple: Drive safely and use designated drivers,” the program's promotional literature stated.
