Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley helped surprise 50 underserved children in Philadelphia with brand-new beds and bedding as part of the Hope to Dream event at the Phield House in Spring Garden on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Ashley Furniture, the Salvation Army, and the Michael Ann & Saquon Barkley Hope Foundation hosted the event. Barkley told WFMZ-TV 69 News that he hopes the beds help children get the sleep they need.

"My focus is trying to make an impact on my community, especially in the youth with academics and athletics. The best way you can do that is [by] having a good night's rest," Barkley said.

The children's parents also benefit from the bed donations.

"It's early Christmas for these kids, but not only is it a brand-new bed for these youngsters, it's also a peace of mind for mom and dad," said Lt. Col. Edgar George of The Salvation Army in a statement shared with Action News 6.

"Blessed that people want to give back," said Helena Williams of North Philadelphia to Action News 6. "Just because you make the money, doesn't mean you have to give anything up."

"It feels great," said 11-year-old Ashyla from North Philadelphia. "I need something to sleep on, and it's cozy."

According to WFMZ-TV 69 News, since 2010, Hope to Dream has donated nearly 200,000 beds to families nationwide.
