NJ Transit has announced it will run extended bus and rail service over the Thanksgiving weekend to accommodate parade attendees, travelers to Newark Liberty International Airport, and Black Friday shoppers. The agency said it will offer extra “early getaway” rail and bus service on Wednesday, Nov. 26, to provide added capacity for travelers to Newark Liberty International Airport and for those leaving work early to start their holiday weekend.

According to a northjersey.com report, the additional “early getaway” service will operate from Penn Station in Manhattan, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal starting at 2 p.m. on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, and Port Jervis lines.

Bus schedules on Wednesday, Nov. 26, will vary by route. Passengers are advised to check their timetables or visit njtransit.com for schedule information.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, trains will switch to a weekend/major holiday schedule with additional trains to handle Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade traffic. On Black Friday, Nov. 28, NJ Transit will run bus service to major shopping centers. Rail service will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule with additional service for those working that day.

For Friday's rail schedules, travelers should use the links in the weekends/holidays column on the printable schedule page at njtransit.com. They can also check printed timetables or use the “Station-to-Station Trip Planner” at njtransit.com and on the agency's mobile app.

To avoid long lines at ticket windows and ticket vending machines, the agency advises people to buy tickets early. Or riders can avoid lines altogether by purchasing tickets on a mobile device using the latest version of NJ Transit's mobile app, available free at the App Store and Google Play.

Additionally, NJ Transit said that the Family SuperSaver Fare will be available from late Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 30, allowing up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult.
