Philadelphia is gearing up to host FIFA World Cup games as one of 16 North American host cities, and the city estimates an economic impact of about $770 million and roughly 6,615 new jobs from an influx of up to 500,000 fans, according to Philadelphia Soccer 2026.

Local businesses are already benefiting from preparations and activities related to America's 250th birthday celebration, which will also take place next year. Landscaping work has begun around Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

City infrastructure is also being upgraded for the event, including renovations to the Filbert Street bus station and the addition of a new cruise terminal. A FIFA World Cup volunteer center has also opened in the Fashion District to assist with visitors.

Michael Blaustein, policy lead for NE Atlantic at Airbnb, explained to FOX 29 that he anticipates Airbnb visitors could contribute about $170 million to Philadelphia's GDP, with hosts potentially earning up to $2,000 per listing per event.
