The 27th Annual Give Love on Christmas Day Community Giveback in West Philadelphia, hosted by the We Care Community and Literacy Center, is set for Christmas Day, Dec. 25, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event will take place at Malcolm X Park, 5200 Pine St., in Philadelphia.
For the past 26 years, Philadelphia residents in hardship have received nourishment, warmth, and essential resources on Christmas Day. It has traditionally been held outside the Federal Building at 1414 S. JFK Blvd., but is expanding its outreach efforts in West Philadelphia this year.
According to WestPhillyLocal.com, attendees will receive hot turkey soup, all-beef hot dogs, juice boxes for children, water, warm blankets, and toiletries. Toys and school materials will be distributed to children while supplies last. The event is free and open to all in need.
Donations of blankets, hats, socks, gloves, his/her toiletries, blankets, toys, book, children's clothes, and food will be accepted through noon today, Dec. 24, at the We Care Community and Literacy Center, 5253 Pine St.
To sponsor a family or make a monetary donation, visit the center's website.
Community partners and donors for this year include MAS Plumbing and Heating, Dietz & Watson, Barker Community Development Corporation, ShopRite, the City of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the 18th Philadelphia Police District, Big Dawg Plumbing, Walmart, and the 5200 block of Pine Street.
