Wawa Recalls Drinks Sold at Local Stores for Possible Milk Allergen

Wawa is voluntarily starting recalls four 16-ounce drinks — Wawa Iced Tea Lemon, Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon, Wawa Diet Lemonade, and Wawa Fruit Punch — sold in five states, including the Philadelphia area. The recall cites a possible undeclared milk allergen as the reason for action.

According to CBS News Philadelphia, the drinks were sold at a limited number of stores in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia. Wawa said at least 11 stores in Philadelphia received the recalled products, along with several other locations across the region.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall started after Wawa identified and corrected a temporary equipment issue that may have inadvertently introduced milk into the beverages. Wawa said the affected beverages have been removed from store shelves and discarded. No other Wawa-branded beverages or stores in other states are a part of the recall.

The FDA warns that milk allergies can cause serious or life-threatening reactions, although no illnesses have been reported.
