52 Weeks of Firsts: First American-Made Piano and Sousaphone: 1895

First American-Made Piano and Sousaphone: 1895 is a public sculpture by Philadelphia artist Iris Barbee Bonner, celebrating the city's role in music history. Philadelphia is home to the first American-made piano and sousaphone, and Bonner's design honors this legacy by combining personal history, cultural pride, and artistic expression. Bonner is the founder of These Pink Lips and a graduate of Arcadia University. She shaped the piece by drawing on her own lifelong relationship with music, having played piano from age 5 through college.

Sing Us Home Festival is a three-day music event founded by Philadelphia singer-songwriter Dave Hause, held at the Venice Island Performing Arts Center in the Manayunk neighborhood. Now in its fourth year, the festival combines punk rock, acoustic music, craft beer, local food, and community spirit. The 2026 lineup includes The Menzingers, The Mountain Goats, and Augustines, marking the latter's return from hiatus with new music. The family-friendly, rain-or-shine event also features an exclusive after-party with Brian Fallon for festival ticket holders.

Philadelphia Ballet: Romeo and Juliet

Philadelphia Ballet presents a world premiere production of Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by Juliano Nunes and set to Sergei Prokofiev's celebrated score. Nunes, who has created works for the Royal Ballet in London, the Mariinsky Theatre, and other major companies, brings Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers to life with costumes and scenic design by Youssef Hotait.
