The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Pop Up Garden at 1438 South St. in Center City Philadelphia is launching its 12th season this year, offering guests a garden oasis with comfort foods, craft brews, and frozen cocktails.

According to an Action News 6abc report, food items will come from the Royal Restaurant Group and include shareable comfort foods such as chicken tenders with a secret sauce and a tofu ricotta dip with a balsamic drizzle. The space is dog-friendly and features multiple seating nooks with weather-protected areas.

The garden showcases a lush, seasonal landscape with flowers, pots, and vines, and hosts monthly programming, including plant swaps and potting parties throughout the summer. Here's a look at some of the upcoming events to mark on your calendar:

  • May 5, 6 p.m.: Bring plants, cuttings, or favorite garden-inspired items to this fun and interactive plant swap. Plant experts will be present to help participants identify unknown plants, and special guests from the plant society will showcase demonstration specimens and seasonal plant favorites. Registration for this event is required.
  • May 19, 6 p.m.: Inspired by the Japanese art of bonsai, kokedama, meaning "moss ball," is a traditional Japanese practice that involves growing plants in a ball of soil wrapped in moss. This workshop will teach participants everything they need to know to grow their own. Registration for this event is required.
  • June 2, 6 p.m.: See May 5 description above. Registration for this event is required.
  • June 16, 6 p.m.: Join a beginner's class in the art of embroidery. Learn how to create an embroidered wildflower design. A 6-inch round hoop, fabric with a pattern, thread, and needle are included in the ticket price. Registration for this event is required.

In addition to the South Street garden, a second PHS Pop Up Garden is located in Manayunk, with a similar format and offerings.
