WMMR’s 50th Birthday
Remembering 1981: WMMR + The Rolling Stones
MMR has been celebrating the station's 50th birthday all year long by spotlighting different years throughout the past five decades. This weekend, we're focusing on 1981. The year contained many musical markers, including the dawn of MTV, the arrival of Pierre Robert to Philadelphia, and a major tour announcement from one of MMR's favorite bands: The Rolling Stones. Pierre and Kevin Gunn tell the story of Mick Jagger's arrival to Philly to announce their U.S. tour (which was recorded and later released as Still Life) and how MMR broadcast the announcement live from a "top secret location". The station also broadcast the world premiere of Tattoo You that year, AND the Mick ended up wearing the MMR logo - listen to the podcast to find out how it all went down!
