In the 1970s and early ‘80s, the Bijou Café was Philadelphia’s premier showcase for up-and-coming acts; Barry Manilow, U2, Prince and many others performed at this tiny club on Lombard Street. Joe Jackson was there in 1979 supporting his debut album Look Sharp!. This pick from the MMaRchives is his first hit, “Is She Really Going Out With Him”. The intro is done by Mark Goodman, who was on the air on MMR in the late 70s and eventually became the station’s music director before moving to NYC, where he’d become one of the first VJs on MTV.
