Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Chats with Brent Porche on Band’s Final Album, Farewell Tour & ‘Behind The Mask’ Film

If you’ve been anywhere near the metal world lately, you’ve probably felt the buzz: Megadeth is about to write its final chapter — and they’re going out in massive style. After 40+ years of thrash-metal dominance, Dave Mustaine and co. are rolling out their seventeenth and final studio album, due January 23, 2026. Yep, Megadeth — simple and bold — and intentionally definitive, like dropping the mic after four decades of shredding.

But here’s the twist (and the fun part) — the album’s debut isn’t just about streaming drops and vinyl variants. The band has paired the record with something bigger: a global cinematic event called Megadeth: Behind The Mask. This isn’t your average rock documentary. On January 22nd (and 24th), fans in over 1,000 theaters across 35+ countries will get to check out a very limited screening of the film, which doubles as a full album listening experience and an emotional trip through the band’s history.

It’s part biography, part celebration. Dave Mustaine himself narrates — unpacking untold stories from four decades on the road, moments of triumph and chaos, and what it really means to call Megadeth a career. But interwoven with that legacy is the world premiere of the new album in full, complete with Mustaine’s track-by-track insights. It’s one thing to hear a new song at home, but quite another to sit in a crowd, lights dimmed and experience the riffs pounding through a cinema sound system.

Fans who’ve gotten early looks describe Behind The Mask as more than a promo — it’s a celebration of the band’s identity, its influence, and the unmistakable voice of Mustaine, still sharp as ever.

Whether you’re hyped to hear new tracks like “Tipping Point” and “I Don’t Care”, or simply here to honor a legacy that shaped metal, this rollout feels like a tribute with teeth — an immersive last hoorah from one of thrash’s greatest.

Dave & I discuss it all, plus his love of Philadelphia and so much more! See Megadeth live with Iron Maiden at Hershey Park Stadium September 15th – details at WMMR.com
