35th Annual AIDS Walk Philly

October 1720217:30 am - 12:00 pm

The 35th Annual AIDS Walk Philly will take place on Sunday, October 17, 2021, as the need to help vulnerable individuals is more important than ever. With the money raised at this year’s Walk, AIDS Fund continues its mission to provide emergency funds to individuals living with HIV through the From All Walks of Life
Fund. With safe housing at the highest priority, especially now, Philadelphians can be a lifeline for their neighbors and loved ones by participating in the AIDS Walk Philly 5K, raising public awareness and funds for those living with HIV/AIDS in our community.

There are over 27,000 people living with HIV in the Greater Philadelphia region, according to the Office of HIV Planning Philadelphia. The funds raised from donations, sponsorships, and participation remain in this region, which has a new infection rate three times greater than the national average.

Produced by AIDS Fund, the Walk will be held on scenic Martin Luther King Drive. Registration and the Reading of Names begins at 7 am, with the opening ceremony at 8 am at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, followed by an aerobic warm-up. The Walk begins at 8:30 am and concludes with a closing ceremony at 10:30 am. Entertainment from the renowned Dukes of Destiny, Philadelphia’s longest-lived and best loved blues act, welcomes walkers upon their return to the Art Museum Steps. Emcees and guest speakers attending the ceremony include
Miguel Martinez-Valle of NBC10, Cherri Gregg of WHYY, Pierre Robert of WMMR, Mutha Knows of WDAS-FM, Reverend Dawn Duppins, and more.

AIDS Walk will display 25 blocks from The AIDS Memorial Quilt, in partnership
with the National AIDS Memorial. The Quilt is the premiere symbol of the AIDS
pandemic, a living memorial to a generation lost to AIDS and an important HIV prevention education tool. The AIDS Memorial Quilt is an epic 54-ton tapestry that includes nearly 50,000 panels dedicated to more than 105,000 individuals. With hundreds of thousands of people contributing their talents to making the memorial panels, and tens of thousands of volunteers to help display it, the Quilt is considered the largest community arts project in history. Each panel memorializes the life of a person lost to AIDS and serves as a compelling reminder that the fight is not over yet.
