From our friend, Sarah:
My dad, Mike Pierson, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2018, at 58 years old. A lifelong runner and native Philadelphian, our family knew we wanted to find a cause that honored his fight, had a direct impact on the local ALS community, and contributed to research toward finding a cure. In 2019, we found just that, in the Inaugural Run for Hope, benefitting the ALS Hope Foundation and the MDA/ALS Center of Hope at Temple University. So far, from 2019 and then from the virtual event in 2020, our team, “Pierson Powerhouse,” has proudly raised about $20,000 for the ALS Hope Foundation. This year, we hope to raise as much as possible to help fund the Foundation and clinic’s crucial research, education, and awareness initiatives. We hope you will join us in this cause – by running, walking, donating, sharing our story, and/or sending good thoughts our way – on June 6, and throughout the year. Thank you!
