MMR turns 50 this year!
Throughout 2018, we will help to celebrate our milestone 50th Birthday with a series of special weekends. Each will focus on a specific year of our history rockin Philly and the music from that year. Details on the whole year, HERE.
Next up - we will celebrate 1972 - MMR turned 4 - and it's the year of Watergate, PONG, Ziggy Stardust, Fear and Loathing, and the first Digital Watch; while Marlon Brando made you an offer you couldn’t refuse in The Godfather.
Musically, we saw new releases from The Eagles, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, David Bowie and lots, lots more from 1972!! Wanna know what WMMR sounded like that year? Below are a couple of clips from back in the day...
This aircheck features Ed Sciaky playing new music (well, new at the time) from Todd Rundgren and John Batdorf, plus a groovy commercial for peanut butter cups.
Here we've got Michael Tearson linking David Bowie to The Beatles, and promoting some specials at the local pub - only a quarter for a beer!
Thanks to listener Vinnie for giving us a heads up on this archival audio.
Tune in - rock out - and enjoy!
