An update:

Johnny had his Post Op Appointment on 10/3/2023 with Dr. Donald O’Rourke. He is the Neurosurgeon who did Johnny’s brain surgery; he is the Director, Human Brain Tumor Tissue Bank – Director, Glioblastoma Translational Center of Excellence – John Templeton, Jr., M.D. Professor in Neurosurgery & Dr. O’Rourke is a Penn Medicine physician

Dr. O’Rourke met Johnny again and told him the entire tumor was removed, but it tested positive. It is Astrocytoma, IDH-mutant cancer which is a high grade 2 tumor. The size of the tumor was 1.75in x 1.18in x 1in.

Because of Johnny’s age (35) and the fact the entire tumor was removed, he will not be going through any treatments at the moment.

On Wednesday, November 15, Johnny has a scheduled appointment and needs to go back to Penn Medicine to have another MRI done so they can check his brain and see if any cancer cells have returned or anything like that. Depending on the results of the MRI that will determine if Johnny needs to start any type of treatment.

Then on December 5, Johnny has two appointments with three Oncologists. Johnny will be seeing Dr. Michelle Alonso-Basanta, Dr. Arati Desai & Dr. Goldie Kurtz.

The family will wait and see what the MRI shows from November and what the Radiation Oncology Team will tell Johnny.

As of right now, Johnny is a survivor from Brain Cancer, but he still has a long journey to continue before he is allowed to return to work, go to the gym, do things around the house, or drive. They also removed all 52 staples out of Johnny’s head and they also removed the stitches.

It has only been 16 days since Johnny had his brain surgery. The doctor told him the total recovery time will be about 20 weeks, so hopefully he will be able to return back to work in January 2024. We are just doing it one day at a time and trying to get through all of it together!

I would just like to thank every single person who has helped share this link, donated money, helped my family and have supported my older brother Johnny. It means more than you will ever know! If you could please share this again so everyone is able to read the update I would appreciate it very much! Johnny will finally be looking at the link and is going to start writing thank you letters and thanking every single person who has helped!

From an earlier post:
“On Thursday, August 31, 2023 while my family and I were on vacation in the Outer Banks in North Carolina my brother Johnny had a brain siezure in the living room while watching TV. While my other brother Kyle called 911 he started foaming at the mouth and stopped breathing for about 45 seconds. I was able to get him on his side, EMS arrived, the siezure stopped, but it took Johnny a good 10 minutes or so to get his bearings, realize what happened and what was going on. They were finally able to get him in the ambulance and rush him to The Outer Banks Hospital. They got him on anti-seizure medication and did an MRI. The results of the MRI found that Johnny has a tumor on his left temporal lobe.”
