Pennsylvania’s first immersive horror ballet will debut at McCoole’s Black Box Theatre in Quakertown, PA on Friday, Oct. 21 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, Oct. 22 (6 p.m.). Santa Mira Studios has produced The Governess using original music and choreography from artists based in the Philadelphia area.
The ballet is set in Yorkshire, England in 1840. According to a short plot excerpt from the official press release:
“Miss Lucy Blaire spends her days teaching at the prestigious Kingsley Academy. She gives her students new life, instilling a sense of independence in the minds of her young ladies. But when Lucy meets the mysterious Baron Weston, her own life changes forever. More than she could have ever imagined…”
Santa Mira founder Bianca Crespo also released her debut film, FREAK, about a writer who retreats to a remote cabin in the woods of Bucks County to escape a dramatic incident in Los Angeles. Her work also includes Brain Burrow, a horror and psychology podcast.
Local artists Ted Woods and Joey Tepedino will display their work during a cocktail hour in the historic McCoole halls, originally constructed during the 1700s, leading up to the premier of The Governess.
Crespo will also release a companion novel for the ballet in 2023. Get ready for the Halloween season with a night out and dinner at the Red Lion Inn next door to the theatre.
