South Philadelphia was twirling their hearts out on Thursday night as Dead & Company brought their ‘Final Tour: Summer 2023’ to Pierre’s Good Citizen’s Ball Park. The Phillies stadium was darn near sold out and packed to the rafters in the 400 level with fans excited to jam out on this beautiful June evening for the Dead & Company Concert. The area surrounding the stadium was filled with Deadheads hoping to score a miracle or maybe a grilled cheese sandwich and a hemp bracelet. I didn’t have a chance to make my way over to ‘Shakedown Street’, but I heard it was on a whole other level.
Dead & Co. is Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, Mickey Hart on drums, Oteil Burbridge on bass, percussion & vocals, Jeff Chimenti on keyboards, Jay Lane (replacing Bill Kreutzmann) on drums & percussion and John Mayer on guitar and vocals.
The band jammed out for close to 4 hours kicking off the show with the tour debut of ‘Man Smart, Woman Smarter’ a King Radio cover, eventually wrapping up a little after 11pm with the Grateful Dead hit and beautiful song ‘Ripple’. 18 songs, spanning 2 sets and an encore, with a 30-minute break in between the first and second set.
