With last weekend’s Super Bowl in the rearview and pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training yesterday, that must mean one thing… NASCAR IS BACK! Motorsports fans across the globe are gearing up for the 65th annual Daytona 500 – the Super Bowl of stock car racing – this Sunday February 19th. This year also marks the 75th anniversary of NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), which was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1948. Each year NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 U.S. states as well as in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Europe.

I’ve been a NASCAR and overall motorsports fan for well over 25 years. I have been to dozens of races, mainly split between Dover Speedway in Delaware and Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. I have driven a stock car several times at both Dover & Pocono as well as Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I even had the opportunity to ride shotgun in a tractor trailer (minus the trailer) outfitted to handle like a race car around New Jersey Motorsports Park in New Jersey… so cool!

Some of the pictures below go back to before my time at WMMR, but as you may notice, I have been ‘reppin’ the station long before I got to join the ‘MMR Family. Between the sights, the sounds and the smells, there is nothing quite like a NASCAR race. It’s always a family friendly atmosphere with pre-race games, giveaways, and fun to be had by all.

NASCAR returns to Dover Speedway the weekend of April 28th-30th & Pocono Raceway the weekend of July 21st thru 23rd. Hope to see you at both!
