The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands… Over the holiday, Brent Porche escaped the heat wave here in Philly for a trip to the Great White North. He spend the weekend in Toronto, Canada, and while there caught an outstanding show at a legendary theater.
Get The Led Out, the premiere Led Zeppelin tribute, was formed in the Philadelphia area, and for over twenty years they’ve been honoring the Mighty Zep with their faithful renditions of the band’s catalog. Their moving performances earned them a spot in one of Canada’s most storied venues: Massey Hall.
Founded in 1894, the venue holds about 2700 people, making for an intimate show. Rush, who hail from Toronto, recorded their first ever live album there in 1976, the double LP All the World’s a Stage. Another son of Canada, Neil Young, also recorded a set there a few years prior, although Live at Massey Hall 1971 wasn’t released until 2007.
Get The Led Out performed inside these hallowed halls on July 5th. They kicked off the set with “In The Evening,” and from there it was a night to remember. The band’s current lineup features Paul Hammond (guitars and mandolin), Paul Sinclair (lead vocals and harmonica), Bobby D (guitars), Tommy Zamp (guitars), Seth Chrisman (bass), Eddie Kurek (keyboards, guitars, percussion and vocals), and Derek Smith (drums). Smith is the newest member of GTLO, joining the fold after the passing of longtime their drummer Adam Ferraioli earlier this year.
