Bill RaymondIt was twenty five years ago that Slipknot barreled out of Iowa, propelled by their self-titled debut album. Their later releases would boast cleaner production and catchier singles, but nothing harnessed their abrasive rage quite like the Slipknot LP.
"Let me proudly say, welcome to 1999," declared Corey Taylor from the stage of Freedom Mortgage Pavilion last week. "Every song you will hear tonight was written before or during 1999."
It was a full circle moment: Corey reminded us from the stage that in that same year, the band "were given the gift of one of the craziest f***ing shows we have ever had a pleasure playing: Ozzfest in this same f***ng place, and here we are!"
Fast forward to 2024, and the "maggots" are still ready to party like it's 1999. Slipknot performed the debut LP in its entirety, but shuffled the track order, bookending their set with the more popular cuts on the record. It hardly mattered; from start to finish, the sold out pavilion was filled with guttural screams that nearly drowned out the band's nine members. See photos below courtesy of Digital Noise Mag.

Knocked Loose, who are riding high on their newest album You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To, prepped the crowd for the chaos to come. Their intense and uncompromising hardcore sound has caught the attention of collaborators like Poppy and Chris Motionless, who are both featured on the new album.
Orbit Culture opened the night. Unlike their Midwestern tour mates, Orbit Culture hail from Sweden, bringing with them a melodic mix of death and groove metal.
