Hollywood's biggest celebrities celebrated the 95th annual Academy Awards yesterday. While it was amazing to see awards go out to deserving actors, it was also amazing to see a salty and satisfying Philadelphia presence.
We've heard stories over the years about the celebrities getting hungry during the all day event. Think about it, they’re getting ready for hours, then traveling to the theatre. They're walking the red carpet, then sitting through the 4+ hour long broadcast. Snacks are a must.
Remember the time Chill Moody snuck a box of TastyKake Krimpets into the Grammys? Jimmy Kimmel did something similar, but this was sanctioned, and he brought enough for everyone.
Shappy Pretzel Co. making headlines & filling Bellies
Jimmy Kimmel arranged to have a snack box under every seat in Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. Roughly 3,400 snack boxes.
Shappy's Philly Ties
Adam Shapiro grew up in Abington, PA. During the pandemic, he started churning out soft pretzels for friends and family. Like some of the great stories to come out of that time, Adam transitioned his pasttime to a full blown business. Shappy Pretzel Co. has become an on set favorite for Hollywood's biggest stars. One of them being host of the 95th Academy Awards, Jimmy Kimmel.
Shappy's Does Kimmel
Adam Shapiro and wife, Katie Lowes, have a long history with Jimmy Kimmel. Beyond the pretzel ties. Lowes has been on Jimmy Kimmel Live multiple times. She made two pregnancy announcements on the late night show.
This video posted to the Shappy's account recreates that phone call that Adam received from Jimmy inviting him to make 4,000 pretzels for the award show. They added a QR code to the back of each pretzel wrapper which lead to a video posted on the company's website. It welcomed everyone to the show and shared a link to hire the company. It also served as the launch of their GoldBelly ordering. Oh, and it casually included Adam's reel, just in case the viewer was currently casting.
Adams stayed at the bakery until midnight to make sure each guest got a delicious pretzel. He earned that plug... and the extra attention on the Eagles. Shappy is such a BIG Birds fan, he posted the schedule on the website.
Pretzels on the Pre Show
The massive order came with two tickets for the couple to walk the carpet and watch the show. Maybe not how the actors expected to attended the Academy Awards, but it's 2023, time to be innovative!
6ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli talked Adam and Katie about the successful pretzel business Sunday night at the Academy Awards.
Shoutout to Shappy!
...and GO BIRDS.
