Spinning Gold is set to be one the most loaded films in the world of musical biopics. It depicts the life of Casablanca Records’ founder Neil Bogart (Jeremy Jordan) and features an all-star cast. Many of the cast members are real-life musicians, and the film is taking advantage of that with its golden, star-studded soundtrack.
Set to be released on the film’s release date – Friday, March 31st – Spinning Gold (Music From the Motion Picture) features R&B singers, pop stars, rappers, and more taking you back in time with covers of songs from the most iconic names in Casablanca Records’ catalogue. Scroll down to learn about a few of the tracks that are included.
“Rock And Roll All Nite” - Kiss, Covered by Sam Harris and Casey Likes
Let’s start this list with a song from one of the biggest bands in history. Kiss’s legendary duo of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons will be portrayed by X Ambassadors’ lead vocalist Sam Harris and up-and-coming actor Casey Likes in Spinning Gold. The two took their on-screen roles into the studio, bringing us this cover.
“Last Dance” - Donna Summer, Covered by Jeremy Jordan and Tayla Parx
Spinning Gold’s leading man Jeremy Jordan joins singer-songwriter and co-star Tayla Parx for a cover of the iconic song by the “Queen of Disco.” Tayla portrays Summer in Spinning Gold, and visually, she is absolutely fit for the role. Considering Parx’s vocal background, she is probably sonically fit as well.
“It’s Your Thing” - The Isley Brothers, Covered by Jason Derulo
This is one of the few singles released for the soundtrack thus far. Platinum pop singer Jason Derulo brings his vocal talent to this take on the electrifying family of funk, and he feels right at home. If this cover is any indicator, Derulo will kill it in Spinning Gold as the Isley Brothers’ longstanding sibling and lead singer Ron.
“Lean On Me” - Bill Withers, Covered by Pink Sweat$
Philly native Pink Sweat$ has a couple of songs on the soundtrack through his role as the late Bill Withers. This cover was released as a single alongside “It’s Your Thing” and the next track on this list, and Pink Sweat$ absolutely nails it. We love seeing one of our city’s own make it to such a major stage!
“Beth” - Kiss, Covered by Alex Gaskarth
We started this list with Kiss, so we will end it with Kiss. All Time Low’s frontman Alex Gaskarth portrays “The Catman” Peter Criss in Spinning Gold, and he makes his rock heritage proud with his take on “Beth.” It may be one of Kiss’s slower songs, but as Alex demonstrates, there is a reason it has withstood the test of time.
