Flea is best known for his musical talents with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but he’s also skilled in the art of acting.

Born Michael Balzary, he first learned the bass in high school. As his band became more popular, he began to ignite his acting career. In the mid-1980’s, Flea starred in his first film as a punk in Suburbia. After that, Flea continued his acting career by making small cameos. In honor of his birthday, here are five movies that featured Flea.

1. The Wild Thornberrys

Starting out as a Nicktoon in 1998 before heading to the silver screen, Flea voiced the Thornberrys’ feral son, Donnie. Quite a perfect role for the wild rocker!

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

While Johnny Depp is on another drug-bender, he encounters a hippie in the bathroom. That long-haired man is the disguised bassist!

3. Back to the Future II & III

Playing Marty McFly’s acquaintance, Douglas J. Needles is the one who challenges him to a race. Looking at the character, it seems like he really didn’t have to branch off from his normal attire.

4. My Own Private Idaho

This was the first time Flea appeared in an independent movie. He portrayed Budd and acted alongside River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves.

5. Baby Driver

You may have noticed him for a brief scene in this 2017 film. Flea played Eddie No-Nose, one of the various robbers Baby drove around.
