Perry Farrell Wants Cher in the Rock Hall with Jane’s Addiction
Perry Farrell is, again, nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Jane’s Addiction. The influential alternative rock band is one of 15 artists nominated for the 2024 induction class. And if the frontman had it his way, he’d have Cher as part of the 2024 class with Jane’s.
Farrell mentioned this in a new interview with Billboard. When asked if he wants voters to finally give Jane’s the nod, he said, “That’s up to you. If you’re gonna do it, check off Cher’s box, too.” Farrell expressed he’d want Jane’s to be counted among rock’s greatest bands but noted he doesn’t “really get off on trophies.”
Jane’s Addiction has been eligible for induction into the Rock Hall since 2013. In addition to being nominated this year, they were previously nominated in 2017. Meanwhile, Cher has been eligible for induction into the Rock Hall since 1991 and received her first nomination this year.
2024 Rock Hall Fan Vote
Fans can cast their vote once a day at Vote.RockHall.com for who they think should be part of the 2024 Rock Hall induction class. This year, voting will last through April 26. Unlike previous years, fans will get to vote for up to seven nominees every day. Previously, the choices were capped at five nominees.
The Fan Vote was first launched in 2013. Per the Rock Hall, “There have been over four million fan votes cast over the past 10 years, with 64% of the Fan Vote ballot (35 of 55) earning induction in the same year; and 86% (38 of 44 unique nominations) eventually earning induction. In 2022, the entire Top 5 earned induction – the only time that has happened.”
Once voting closes, the top five vote artists in the Fan Vote will create what is called a “Fans’ Ballot.” It will be counted among the other ballots that various artists, historians, and music industry professionals fill out and submit.
The Rock Hall noted that ten of the 15 nominees are on the ballot for the first time. Those artists are Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade.
