A7X’s Zacky Vengeance on M. Shadows’ Recovery, New Music
Perhaps one of the biggest bummers of the summer was the cancelation of Avenged Sevenfold’s tour with Prophets of Rage due to a viral infection that prevented M. Shadows from being able to sing.
Good news is Shadows is certainly on his way back, and in a conversation with Beasley Media Group’s Meltdown from WRIF, rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance said the frontman has definitely put in the work and stuck to doctor’s orders:
“Absolutely. He takes it seriously. That’s one thing we’ve always been lucky about…When it came time to rest it [his vocal chords], he does. He puts in the work. I can never take that away from him. Every show we ever play, he warms up and does vocal lessons. He spends hours warming up. He really wants to make sure he gives the fans the best. He’s hardest on himself; I’m easy going. I always go out there and say, ‘Hey dude, give it your best shot. Our fans will appreciate you going out there and rocking. They’re all here to have a good time. They won’t notice if you’re not 100 percent.’ But he’s one of those guys that wants to be 100 percent. But when it comes to the idea of doing any permanent damage, we want to back away from that and always look toward the future.”
A7X has recently released the new track “Mad Hatter” as part of the soundtrack for the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but could more new music be in the works? Vengeance had some positive news to report:
“Because we’ve had the unexpected break, we all get a little itchy being home for too long, and that puts us around our instruments and our guitars and gives us plenty of free time. With that said, [there are] lots of ideas floating around. I think we’re all pretty anxious to get back to work. None of us expected to be sitting on the sidelines for the entire summer, so that kinda started this next process early. It’s been great being home, but to be honest, a band like us, we don’t like to be on the sidelines for too long. We like to get back out there and get back to doing what we love to do and especially give some new music and new concerts to our fans.”
