Royal Baby Name Announced: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor
Just hours after making his debut for the cameras, Baby Sussex had his name formally announced Wednesday: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is seventh in line to the throne. The baby, who was born at 05:26am local time on May 6, 2019, has not yet had his title formally announced.
According to reports, his name was revealed to Queen Elizabeth just moments after his photo-op for the cameras with mom and dad.
The couple announced his name via their official Instagram page.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the post read. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”
Archie was a surprise choice for the couple, who seems to be carving out traditions of their own. For those placing bets on what the baby’s name would be, many expected a more traditional royal name like Spencer, Alexander, Arthur or Philip.
But Harry and Meghan don’t seem concerned with needing to follow all the traditional rules. Instead, they’re just basking in the birth of their newborn.
“It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing,” Meghan said Wednesday. “And I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
