Jon Hamm to Star in Reboot of ‘Fletch’
Jon Hamm will star in a modern-day reboot of Fletch.
This film will be based on the second book in Gregory McDonald’s series, “Confess Fletch” where the goofy detective becomes the prime suspect for multiple murders. While trying to prove his innocence, Fletch is tasked with finding his fiancée’s stolen art collection, acquired after her father goes missing and is presumed dead.
In a statement, Miramax CEO Bill Block said, “Fletch’s duration over audiences- whether told on paper or the big screen- entertains every type of audience and we could not be more thrilled to see what twenty-first century twist these artists create.”
Per Miramax, Hamm will also serve as a producer on the film along with his manager Connie Tavel. Greg Mottola, best known for directing 2007’s Superbad, has been tapped as the film’s director. Zev Borrow, best known for his work on Fox’s TV reboot of Lethal Weapon, will serve as the film’s screenwriter.
Tavel added, “Producing this film with Jon has been a long-time dream of mine and with Zev and Greg on board to write and direct, I really believe that this will be an exciting and modern reimagining of this beloved character.”
Originally a popular series of mystery novels released in the 1970s, the series, which includes five novels in total, has been famously adapted into two films already, 1985’s Fletch and 1989’s Fletch Lives, both starring Chevy Chase.
Currently, there is no estimated release schedule for the Fletch reboot
