Paul McCartney: The Hilarious Thing He Said After Recording with the Rolling Stones
Paul McCartney playing on Hackney Diamonds, the new Rolling Stones album, is easily one of the coolest things to happen in 2023. Even for Sir Paul, it’s a moment that wasn’t lost on him.
Producer Andrew Watt looked back on helping helm the new Stones LP in an interview with Rolling Stone. Watt described an electric atmosphere in the studio with McCartney, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. The four icons were having a lot of fun recording together and were playing music as if they were young kids again.
Eventually, things wrapped up, and Watt escorted McCartney out of the studio. Watt recalls, “When I was walking Paul out, he literally was like, ‘I just played f—ing bass with the Stones — and I’m a f—ing Beatle.’ He literally said those words.”
McCartney’s bass is heard on “Bite My Head Off,” which can be heard below.
Hackney Diamonds and a New Feat for the Stones
Hackney Diamonds was released on Oct. 20. Per Billboard, the album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart. With this chart debut, the Stones have now become the first act to have a top-10 album in every decade since the 1960s. The two releases that bested the Stones were Drake’s For All the Dogs and blink-182’s One More Time…
Hackney Diamonds is available in a variety of formats on RollingStones.com.
The Rolling Stones and Songwriting
The Rolling Stones have decades of experience writing music. So, how long does it take them to realize a song idea is really something?
They touched on that topic in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning. Mick Jagger told Anthony Mason, “You can’t be dismissive of it if you don’t get it in the first one minute, but you kind of get to know in ten minutes, I’d say.”
Keith Richards agreed, adding, “It doesn’t take long to know if something’s really there and whether it’s worth chasing.”
