Happy Birthday Noel Gallagher of Oasis
It’s time to celebrate a birthday! May 29th marks the birthday of Noel Gallagher from Oasis. He was born Noel Thomas David Gallagher on this day back in 1967 in Manchester, England. He is 57 today.
You know him as the lead guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the band Oasis, that is until their split in 2009, which is crazy to think that it’s been 15 years since those guys broke up.
Gallagher began playing guitar at the age of 12 and became a roadie and a technician for Inspiral Carpets when he was 21 years old. He learned that his younger brother Liam had joined a band called Rain, which eventually became Oasis, and Liam invited his brother to join the group as their manager, and after rejecting the offer, Gallagher agreed to join the band on the condition that he would take creative control of the group and become its sole songwriter and lead guitarist.
Oasis’ career was marked by turbulence, especially during the peak of Britpop, during which Gallagher was involved in several disputes with Liam. Their conflicts and wild lifestyles regularly made tabloid headlines, and even today they like to kind of throw jabs at one another like up on Twitter/X. (It’s actually kind of an entertaining follow!)
After leaving Oasis, he formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. He’s considered one of the most successful songwriters in British music history and has the writer of eight UK number one singles and the co-writer of another number one, as well as the sole or primary writer of ten UK number one studio albums.
Jacky Bam Bam, filling in for Pierre Robert, did a Workforce Block of Oasis today in his honor. He left one song out though, and Brent Porche included it in his afternoon playlist: “Supersonic,” from the band’s debut album Definitely Maybe. Happy birthday Noel Gallagher, from 93.3 WMMR Philadelphia!
