Taking steps to boost campus safety, Delaware State University installed ZeroEyes' AI gun detection system through a partnership with Advantech.
The setup connects to the university's existing camera system, immediately sending alerts to a dedicated monitoring center. The center is staffed 24/7 by veterans with law enforcement experience. When guns are detected, the team notifies both campus police and school officials within seconds.
"Our clients are constantly faced with the challenge of reassessing how they protect their people and property," said Ryne Johnson to PR Newswire.
The technology caught the eye of government officials. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security designated it as an approved anti-terrorism tool - making it the first AI gun detection system to receive this recognition.
Campus security chief James Overton praised the system's accuracy. "I knew ZeroEyes' gun detection technology was good, but the human element behind it, which minimizes false positive detections, convinced me that this was a serious product capable of mitigating false alarms and preventing harm."
Other schools have followed suit. Temple University added the system this year, becoming the first in their area. In Delaware, Appoquinimink School District installed the technology in their sports facilities last year.
ZeroEyes CEO Mike Lahiff emphasized that quick response time is crucial. When threats emerge, the monitoring team acts fast, verifying dangers and reaching out to law enforcement.
The technology has spread beyond schools. Military bases, hospitals, and office parks have adopted it. Big retailers and manufacturing sites are using it too.
Advantech brought years of school security expertise to the project. They've proven themselves helping schools enhance safety, including their ongoing relationship with Delaware State.
