It’s The 37th Anniversary of MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball

It's the 37th Anniversary of MTV's Headbanger's Ball "Your ticket to the heaviest headbanging ball is right here. Enjoy all the best in metal and rocks and get your mosh on!" Headbangers Ball was a music television program that aired heavy metal music videos on MTV. The show began on MTV on April 18, 1987, playing heavy metal music videos from well-known and more obscure artists. The show became famous because of its difference from the Top 40 music videos shown during the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZuQJPqRrAo     The name "Headbangers Ball" was originally invented and used by DJ John Brent of Bury, Greater Manchester, and was used on his rock and metal roadshows from 1980 onwards. Headbangers Ball was one of the most popular music shows ever to air on MTV. It was on the air for nearly 8 years! In 1988 and 1989, the show length was increased to 3 hours. Its influence was widespread with heavy metal's rise in the 1980s and early 1990s. There were three North American tours were presented by Headbangers Ball. The first was in 1987 with Helloween, Armored Saint, and Grim Reaper. The 1989 tour was with Anthrax, Exodus, and Helloween. In 1992, the tour was with Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies. Heavier alternative acts, such as The Cult, Faith No More, Primus, and Jane's Addiction, also got played on Headbangers Ball. I can't believe it's been 37 years since the show began! What a great time. Happy anniversary to Headbanger's Ball! RELATED: (more…)
