May the 4th be with all of you! And a very happy 5th anniversary to Shinedown‘s sixth studio album Attention! Attention! Produced by Shinedown bassist Eric Bass and released via Atlantic Records on this day back in 2018, Attention! Attention! (A!A!) was Shinedown’s first descent into the concept album realm. The individual depicted throughout the theme of the songs on the album is attempting to overcome negativity to eventually be reborn as a new person.
The first track and single on A!A! is the hard-rocking “Devil”, which sets the mood for the album and in a way smacks you in the face to make sure you pay attention to what the rest of the album is trying to say. Shinedown followed up “Devil” with the smash-hit singles “Get Up” & “Mosters”, which sent A!A! somewhere well into the stratosphere. Two of my favorite tunes from the album are “Black Soul” and “Human Radio”, amazing, hard, crunchy songs that I wish got more time in their live set on that album run. The final track on the A!A! is a beautiful song called “Brilliant”. If you ever need a pick-me-up, listen to that song, it’s great!
To get an even better perspective of the “concept” that is Attention! Attention!, watch the ‘Shinedown Movie’ Attention! Attention The Film. It is basically a separate music video for every song on the album, with slight transitions or interludes in between the songs. It runs a little less than an hour, and is a great watch! You can find it on most streaming services.
A few days before the release of Attention! Attention!, Sara & I went up to New York City for a press event to get a preview of the new album. The event was at Tao Downtown Restaurant. We had a bite to eat in the main room, before all the media people were ushered off into a private room where Shinedown would preview the new album while performing a few of their hit songs acoustically for us. It was truly an amazing night up in the Big Apple, and for the very first time I am posting some never-before seen pictures and video of that night. It was basically seeing Shinedown in a tiny nightclub; how cool!
We are thrilled to welcome Shinedown back to the Philadelphia area on Saturday September 16th to headline the 2023 MMRBQ! Get tickets and information here.
