Fall is here, and even though the colors are running late in Pennsylvania this year, there are some areas of the state that are quite vibrant. So, if you want to view the best autumn colors in America, where should you go?

The folks at 10best.com, spearheaded by the USA Today Network, have put together a study to find the best places to view fall foliage in America. What's extra cool is that this study is largely based on voting. "For many of us, the only thing that takes the sting away from the end of summer is the anticipation of the beautiful fall colors," they state. "The leaf-peeping season has arrived, so we went on a search for the top places to view the changing trees. A panel of travel experts selected the original 20 nominees, then readers voted for the 10 best destinations for fall foliage."

As it turns out, Pennsylvania has two of the best spots in America to view fall foliage. Coming in at No. 3 on the list is Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. The article states, "The Pocono Mountains are ablaze with hues of red, orange and yellow come autumn, thanks to the area’s 127 species of indigenous trees, plants and shrubs. Leaf peepers can hop in the car for a scenic cruise along Route 507 near Lake Wallenpaupack or climb aboard a fall foliage train." Next, coming in at No. 7 is Laurel Highlands, Pennsylvania, with the pub stating, "Fall foliage in the Laurel Highlands usually peaks in mid-October, making the Pennsylvania region an ideal fall getaway destination. Go for a drive along Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway with a stop to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater framed by colorful leaves, or take a scenic hike in Ohiopyle State Park."

As for the top five, No. 1 is the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, followed by Taos, New Mexico; the aforementioned Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania; White Mountains, New Hampshire; and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Find the full list of the best places to view fall foliage in America here.

So, what if you want to visit an area of the state that's isn't an obvious one for fall colors? Maybe you would even call it a "secret" place. Well, the crew at BestLifeOnline.com has done the work for you and put together a list of the 10 best "secret places" in the U.S. to see fall foliage. "Summer's end signals the last days of warm weather in most areas," they state in the article. "But it also means the return of fall's dazzling colors in full display as trees begin to turn for the season. You can plan entire trips around leaf peeping, whether it's heading to a national park for unimpeded foliage or planning a drive to take in the dazzling orange, red, and yellow hues that dominate the landscape. And while the pastime is popular enough to drive crowds to well-known viewing destinations, there are still plenty of under-the-radar options for getting your fix."
