South Philly Neighbor's Act of Kindness After Package Theft
This is a story about an incredibly kind neighbor of mine, right in South Philly.
I ordered a lot from Amazon before Christmas Day. Once I was done collecting presents for my family I decided to treat myself to a few nice things for myself after the holiday. I ordered a pack of scrunchies and a book from Amazon. They would be delivered after the Dec. 27th. Perfect. I would be home by them to receive them.

That was not the case. They were delivered on Christmas Eve when I was with my family in Northeast Philly. When I came home to my apartment Christmas night, two package bags were stuffed in my mailbox opened & empty. Before you enter my apartment building, there is a small vestibule, unlocked for delivery drivers and mailmen to deliver packages inside of the building and safe from porch pirates. I've never had a package stolen, until now.

How weird for the porch pirate to open the package bags, take whatever is inside of them, and then place the empty bags back into my mailbox? I called Amazon and got my refund, after that, I didn’t think much of it.

This past Friday, I received a handwritten note in my mailbox written on loose-leaf paper.South Philly Neighbor

The note reads:

Dear Neighbor,

A few weeks ago I found opened packages addressed to you. Some porch pirate apparently stolen several packages in the "nabe." They opened them near my home on xxxx Street. I found the pile of packaging and was able to notify most victims of what happened. I forgot to come back and leave you a note explaining the packaging stuffed in your mailbox. Sorry.

Stay Vigilant and Happy New Year!

- Your Neighbor

This letter pulled at my heartstrings. Were they able to return the items I ordered? No. Who cares. Those items are and will always be replaceable. This feeling of safety I gained and the protection I felt just from this note is priceless. The "neighbor" remained anonymous, but I thank them very much for looking out for me.
