Claudio Sanchez Talks All Things Coheed And Cambria With Ryan Shuttleworth
Coheed and Cambria have certainly made quite the lasting impression with the city of Philadelphia. Over their 20 years of existence as a band they have cultivated great works of art. It starts sonically with 10 studio records already under their belt. Then you tie in the epic sci-fi saga The Amory Wars comic series that a majority of Coheed’s music relates too. Last but certainly not least their electrifying live concert experiences which are something to marvel over, including an outstanding acoustic MMaRchive performance on the Preston and Steve show.
We celebrated one such experience last Tuesday night over in South Philadelphia as Coheed and Cambria took the stage at the Big Joint (aka Wells Fargo Center). Out on the road as direct support for the remarkable Incubus as they celebrated their 2001 smash record Morning View performing it in its entirety along with a set of hits. Playing an album fully live certainly provides music lovers something special.
“Its an opportunity for fans to hear songs that aren’t the obvious” front man Claudio Sanchez tells WMMR. “Its nice! it gives both band and audience an opportunity to celebrate a record in its entirety and have some of these songs get kind of dusted off and actually performed… Those are special and i always consider what would it be like … to do “The Amory Wars” edition or when Vaxis gets completed to do those in a series. I think they’re great I love it!”
In an extended chat with Ryan Shuttleworth, Claudio discussed the brand new Coheed and Cambria song they debuted live on tour called ‘Blindside Sunny’ and confirms the new record is coming soon. “We’ve had this record now finished for some time so why not try to introduce something earlier … We’re still in the midst of scheduling how songs will come out and how the record will come out.”
Claudio also dove into an update on “The Amory Wars” comic series. The “No World For Tomorrow” series is currently in the midst of being released and can be found at many comic shops and once the series is fully released will be more readily available. When asked about the potential about “The Amory Wars” making it to the silver screen, Claudio believes “Its only a matter of time before”.
Throughout the conversation, Claudio also reflected on the importance his family life has played in his career. From collaborating with his wife Chondra and recently buying his son Atlas his first guitar to jam Nirvana. That sense of family certainly translates to fans of Coheed and Cambria and those who are looking to jump in. As Claudio puts it “Coheed’s following its not obvious to the outside but once you come in its VERY obvious”.
Usually they’re the ones saying Welcome Home, however, it was such an immense pleasure to welcome Coheed and Cambria back to the Philly and we welcome them to the home of rock and roll WMMR! You can hear these topics and many others below please enjoy!
