Motley Crue: Details on ‘Cancelled’ EP
Motley Crue is releasing a new EP titled Cancelled.
The EP features three songs: The title track, the previously released “Dogs of War” and a cover of the Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!),’ which can be heard below. The cover is also available for streaming/download here.
The Crue said in a joint statement, “It was really great getting in the studio and working on some tracks together. What started out as a couple demo ideas turned into this EP produced by Bob Rock. We look forward to getting back into the studio again soon and writing more new music, as well.”
It’s unknown whether the title track “Cancelled” will be previewed in the coming weeks. However, the track was first talk about by Tommy Lee back in October 2023. The Crue drummer said in an appearance on Club Random with Bill Maher, “We just recorded a song called ‘Cancelled’ because we were just inspired by the rest of the world and things and places, like anybody else.”
Lee said the band was inspired to write the song after coming across an article questioning how the band was never “cancelled.” Lee did admit to Maher, “We snuck in under the whatever threshold, wherever that was, where we got away with f—ing murder.”
Lee did jokingly say that since the Crue was never canceled, it makes him want to try harder to get canceled. Or at least we think he was joking. Perhaps we’ll find out eventually if he was!
Cancelled comes out on October 4 and is available for pre-order here.
A New Chapter for Motley Crue
When “Dogs of War” was first released in April, the band said the song was “the start of a brand new chapter.” Obviously, without guitarist Mick Mars in the picture, this is definitely a brand new chapter in that sense. However, the single also marked the first release from the Crue on a new label.
It was also announced in April that Motley Crue signed with Big Machine Records. In a statement, Big Machine Chairman and CEO Scott Borchetta said, “Growing up in Southern California, I was in Hollywood when these new sheriffs showed up and took over the city. It was loud. It was powerful. It was game changing. Vince, Nikki, and Tommy, along with new guitarist John 5, have reignited the flame with ferocious new Crüe music. Fans will unite… SHOUT!”
The band added in their own joint statement, “We are thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of our new music through Big Machine Records. Scott’s been a friend and supporter of the band for a long time … We’re very happy to know our new music will be in the best of hands with Scott and his exceptional team at Big Machine.”
