Let there be rock! Since this week marks the birthday of Angus Young, we thought we’d look back at the last time Philadelphia hosted AC/DC at the Big Joint.
The band wrapped up a tour at the Wells Fargo Center on September 20th, 2016. For several years, this was potentially their last show ever, since after the gig they went away for a little while and then a pandemic put a hard stop to touring for a moment. This show also occurred before longtime frontman Brian Johnson returned to the band, so Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses was singing lead (yep, remember AXL/DC?).
Since that night in South Philly, AC/DC have only performed live one other time, at the Power Trip festival in California last year. They have an extensive European tour planned for this summer, stretching from May to August with our friends in The Pretty Reckless as support.

As for the birthday boy: Angus Young turned 69 years old this past Sunday (3/31) and he’s still going strong. Here’s hoping that AC/DC returns to the City of Brotherly Love and Sister Affection sooner rather than later! Keep an eye on the official MMR Concert Calendar for a potential date.
In the meantime, we’re looking back at the last time Angus Young and the gang were here. What was even cooler about their show in Philly that night in 2016 is that WMMR gave one lucky listener a chance to meet Angus, and that fan, Mike, showed up in full uniform, as you can see below!
