On Sunday, July 23rd, The Preston and Steve Show’s very own Casey Boy participated once again in the annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour in its 36th year running. Participants pay a registration fee and raise at least $200 toward the Families Behind the Badge Children Foundation, which provides relief to families of fallen first responders.
Casey was joined by WMGK host Matt Cord and others on Team WMMR Rock & Rollers to take on the 65-mile route from the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge to the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City. The Rock & Rollers have raised $40,564 and still are accepting donations on their team page. The team did not disappoint this year with their newest team jersey: a retro baby blue Phillies jersey with an ‘R’ logo and the number 93 in honor of our home station.
And supposedly, the weather didn’t disappoint either! When asked for the shining moments of the weekend, Casey said the weather was the highlight. With reasonable humidity and the wind constantly behind, it was the perfect day for a bike ride to the shore. Casey also of course cherished his time hanging out with his teammates before the ride, as he sees a handful of these people only once per year.
Casey also took a 25-mile leisure ride before the race with Matt, taking off from Wildwood and exploring the Villas in Cape May County. Great idea for them to get warmed up for the monstrous 65-mile trial ahead of them.
In addition to the traditional route, a shortened 30-mile route that begins in Hammonton, NJ, is also an option. Virtual participants may also contribute by completing 65 of anything of their choice from pushups, tennis matches, free throws.
We are so grateful for all the donations, and so honored to contribute to Families Behind the Badge and assist the families of our fallen first responders.
