Queens of the Stone Age brought their “End Is Nero” tour to the TD Pavilion at the Mann Music Center last night for an MMR concert event.
Joshua Homme and the boys are touring in support of their brand-new album In Times New Roman…. It’s the band’s eighth album, released via the independent record label Matador back in June. Phantogram, an electro-rock duo out of New York City, and the Armed, hardcore punkers from Detroit, opened the show.
I have also seen Queens of the Stone Age live several other times over the years. First, I saw them in 2005 at the Spectrum with Nine Inch Nails and Death From Above 1979. They were touring in support of their fourth studio album Lullabies That Paralyze.
In 2013, Pierre Robert and I broadcasted live on MMR from the Budweiser Made In America Fest on the Parkway here in Philadelphia with Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Beyonce, and more artists on the bill. Most recently, I saw QOTSA at the Festival Pier on Delaware Avenue with Royal Blood opening back in 2017.
About halfway through the show, Josh Homme asked/told the security at the Mann to stand down and let the crowd in the back come up to the front to dance and sing. I can certainly tell you that the house security was not thrilled with the idea, but they allowed those who wanted to get a bit closer to the stage. The isles were overflowingly packed with Queens of the Stone Age lovers singing their hearts out.
This live QOTSA jam below was a highlight for me, hope you especially enjoy it!
