Out now, is a special Tour Edition of Electric Callboy's latest album, 2022's 'TEKKNO' on a light blue & lilac marbled vinyl.

As we kick-off WMMR’s wildly popular Back to School A to Z today, we all collectively look forward to these next 2+ weeks of amazing music. It’s a composition of tunes put together by our programing department as a representation of (over) 55 years of rock & roll here in the City of Brotherly Love & Sisterly Affection and beyond.

The best part about it is that listeners both young and “experienced” get to hear songs and bands that, maybe, you’ve never heard before. Which got me thinking about some of my favorite bands that I like to listen to outside of work, that maybe you have never heard of before.

Periodically, I’d like to introduce some of the music and artists that I dig outside of the MMR realm. Up first, it’s this crazy electronicore band out of Germany: Electric Callboy.

Electric Callboy

A dear friend of mine from Brazil actually turned me on to Electric Callboy about six months ago by playing a music video of theirs titled “Hypa Hypa.”

Within the first few seconds of the song, I had a bit of a “WTF” expression on my face. However, after watching the whole video, I was through-the-roof excited about this band and what they’re all about.

The band, formerly known as Eskimo Callboy, formed in Castrop-Rauxel, Germany back in 2010. In March of 2022, they announced the name change to Electric Callboy. The band changed the word “Eskimo” because it can be seen as a derogatory name for Inuit and Yupik people the of the Arctic.

The band’s musical style is electronicore, metalcore, comedy rock, dubstep, and EDM (among others). To me, it’s like a mix of Steel Panther, Backstreet Boys, Lonely Island, and your favorite metalcore band.

Electric Callboy’s music videos are as wild as their live performances are, as you’ll see below. They have a huge fanbase over in Europe. Finally, they are bringing their wild & crazy & extremely entertaining live shows on their very first North American tour.

Electric Callboy will perform live at Brooklyn Bowl Philly in Fishtown on September 14th. The show sold out as quickly as it went on-sale. In fact, their entire ‘TEKKNO World Tour’ is sold out, including every U.S. tour stop.

Since their formation in 2010, Eskimo/Electric Callboy has released two EP’s and six full-length albums. Their most recent is TEKKNO from 2022. That means there is plenty of back-catalogue to comb through!

In the meantime, enjoy these videos and performances of Electric Callboy below! See you at Brooklyn Bowl on the 14th!

  • Electric Callboy - "Hypa Hypa" (Official Music Video)

This was the very first introduction to the band Electric Callboy, a song called “Hypa Hypa” off of their 2020 EP MMXX. I love the “Doop Doop” part of the song because it reminds me of the Philadelphia Union “Doop” every time they score a goal. The heavier parts of the song are what really drew me to this band, however.

  • Electric Callboy Live in Ludwigsburg, Stuttgart, Germany (Full Show)

This was the second ever video that I watched from Electric Callboy, a full show of theirs in their home country of Germany. This room is massive compared to the venues they are scheduled to play here in the States. Brooklyn Bowl Philly is a fraction of a fraction of the size of this one. It’s gets me even more excited for the Philly show because you know it’s going to be off the chain entertaining and wild.
