Happy 56th Birthday Dave Matthews! Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Matthews is the lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter for the Dave Matthews Band since their formation back in 1991. Since then, the DMB has released nine full-length albums and dozens upon dozens of live albums – including their first, the independently released debut “Remember Two Things”. There we heard early versions of future huge hits from the band like “Ants Marching”, “Tripping Billies” & “Satellite”. ‘Remember Two Things’ will be celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this upcoming November.
The Dave Matthews Band loves Philadelphia, they have played countless concerts in the area including gracing the Live 8 stage right at the foot of the Art Museum steps back in 2005 in front of close to a million onlookers that were packed up and down the Ben Franklin Parkway.
Over their 30+ year career, the Dave Matthews Band has sold well over 25 million concert tickets and close to 40 million albums worldwide. DMB is also the first band ever to have seven consecutive #1 album debuts. Dave has won two Grammy’s, one with the DMB for “So Much To Say” and one as a solo artist for “Gravedigger”.
When seeing the Dave Matthews Band live, it’s more than just a concert, it’s a vibe. It’s a happening. Everyone happily singing and dancing from the beginning to concerts end. I have been fortunate enough to see Dave & the DMB well over 100 times in concert. The band has such a vast catalog of songs (and covers) that each show really is a new experience… and a must-see for any true music lover!
Some great DMB live shows to check out in the meantime – The Central Park Concert from 2003, Weekend on the Rocks (Red Rocks) from 2005 & Live at Piedmont Park from 2007 – all are available on DVD and can be found online!
