If the city of Philadelphia seems unhappy today, it’s because we are. Sports fans are walking with their heads hung low, bags under their eyes from staying up too late. We’re tired, and more importantly, we’re disappointed. The Philadelphia 76ers suffered a particularly upsetting loss.

So many things contributed to the devastating defeat. It’s never nice to see your team get defeated in a bad way. It hurts to watch another team celebrate on your court, or celebrate your defeat in general. At the moment, what will make it better? What do you think will fix the frustration?

You have to remember that the 76ers are a very good team. We have seen a lot of bad years, and this is not one of them. You also have to remember that it could be worse (Like second-round exits. Let’s hope for no more second-round exits going forward. Please). We’ve been through worse. It’s disappointing, sure, but we’ve been here.

I’m not here to make promises for the future, nor am I here to explain away all that went wrong. I am here today, instead, to maybe help you out.

Here are some coping strategies for the day after the Philadelphia 76ers lost:

  • Remember Good Times

It’s hard, right? But not impossible. Watch Sixers highlights on YouTube and remind yourself how good they have been! There will always be good times. They have always happened and there are always more to come. They are a good team. We can’t help but love them. They have amazing personalities and are dang good at what they do. Our time will come.

  • Get Really Into Another Team

There are always some sort of other sports happening during the season. Whether it’s the Eagles, Flyers, Union, or Phillies, you can really throw yourself into your fandom for those teams. They may lose, too, but hey, that’s a part of life!

  • Go On A Walk

Exercise is always a good way to get any icky and unwanted emotions out. Fresh air will always do you a world of good. Or head to the gym and work it all out there.

  • Hang Out With Friends

Try not to talk about the loss, of course. Or do, it may be cathartic to get it out. Being in the company of others helps you when you’re feeling unhappy.

  • Unplug

I personally shut the TV off as soon as that final buzzer sounds. You don’t want to see another team celebrate your team’s loss, so don’t. Avoid social media and the trolling that goes along with it. Avoid national sports analysis TV shows if they upset you. Watch or listen to something else. Don’t go looking for Sixers content on social media. Don’t wallow in the bad vibes.

  • Eat Your Favorite Foods

Make today your cheat day. Who cares? Food is yummy. Food makes things better. Fill that 76ers-loss-sized hole in your heart with a cheeseburger or some pasta. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to something that makes you happy. Go ahead. Get fries with that.
