93.3 WMMR Philadelphia was the first to play another world premiere from the new Pearl Jam album Dark Matter before its official release this Friday. Pierre Robert, who hosted a listening party for fans last night, premiered the song “Wreckage” on the airwaves today (4/17) before launching into a full Workforce Block of the band’s music.
“Wreckage” is the fifth track on the album, and it clocks in at a clean five minutes. You can listen to it below, and see photos from the listening party, which included a video welcome from bassist Jeff Ament. There were also visuals to go with each track, complete with lyrics so that everyone in the theater could follow along with Eddie Vedder’s singing.
Here’s what Pierre Robert had to say about the listening party experience:
Pierre commented: “WMMR had two great listening parties this week for the new Pearl Jam album Dark Matter: one at a local record store, The Record Shop in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, hosted by Nick McIlwain of the Preston and Steve Show. The other, which I hosted, was at the Ritz Theater in Center City Philadelphia. Great fun, great fans, great music!”
You can see a shot of Nick outside of The Record Shop below – it made it to Pearl Jam’s Instagram! Fans got to get their first full listen of this latest LP at each location. The response was positive, with many commenting that the new music is anthemic and upbeat, and indicative of what they have come to expect from the band.
Dark Matter was produced by Andrew Watt (who also worked on the Rolling Stones’ and Ozzy Osbourne’s recent records) and it comes out this Friday (4/19) via Republic Records. Pearl Jam are coming to Philadelphia for a two night stand in September. Both nights are sold out, but WMMR could have a chance for you to win seats closer to the show date. More details can be found on MMR’s Official Concert Calendar.
