The Halloween haunting season is officially here. The Philadelphia area has some of the biggest and best haunts anywhere! I visited one of my all-time favorite haunted attractions in the area, the close to 200-year-old Eastern State Penitentiary in Fairmount, for Halloween Nights.
Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary
Year after year, the folks behind Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary create an amazing haunted attraction, and this year’s is bigger than ever!
The entire grounds of Eastern State have been turned into five separate haunted houses, including Delerium, Big Top Terror, Machine Shop, Nightmares, and The Crypt. Each attraction is also completely different from the others but equally as scary and haunted with some of the best ghouls and monsters the area has to offer. The close to 200-year-old Eastern State Penitentiary is your backdrop. You’ll also find that it’s one of the best haunted attractions anywhere.
Halloween Nights has a ton of fun entertainment as well, including S’mores and Lore, where you listen to ghost stories while you roast s’mores. The Boogie Monsters also dance and entertain the masses at Eastern State with performances every 30 minutes.
The vampire themed Bloodline Lounge features live music and entertainment from the un-dead ghouls. Kaleidoscope Hall (pictured below) is a sound and light spectacular. For those over 21, the Speakeasy at Al Capone’s cell is a prohibition-themed cocktail lounge with live entertainment right in front of the legendary gangster’s prison cell.
I highly suggest that you “Opt In” and grab a glow necklace as you enter the festival. If you do, they might grab you, send you down hidden passageways, and even temporarily separate you from your group. It really takes your Halloween Nights adventure to a whole new level of spooky fun!
Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary runs on select nights from now through November 11th. Eastern State also offers daytime tours every day from 10am-5pm. Halloween Nights also offers a sample of their museum exhibits and tours. The close to 200-year-old penitentiary is so cool to check out and experience on its own. With the historic prison set as the backdrop to a bunch of haunted houses, attractions, and creepy characters, it makes it among the areas best haunts hands down!
