This past Friday night after my show, I zipped down to Atlantic City, New Jersey. I got to see one of my all-time favorite guitarists, Mark Tremonti, sing a full set of Frank Sinatra tunes. Yup, you heard right, Mark Tremonti. The Grammy Award-winning, hard-rocking and heavy metal guitarist from Alter Bridge, Creed, and his solo band Tremonti. Was all done up in his best tuxedo, backed by a 17-piece band. He mesmerized the intimate Music Box crowd at the Borgata with an hour-long set of some of “Ol’ Blue Eyes” greatest hits. Even some deeper cuts.

The Origins

The idea for the project started a few years ago.  Tremonti connected with several surviving members of Frank Sinatra’s orchestra including Mike Smith & Dan McIntyre. He was looking to create new takes on some of Sinatra’s classics from his vast catalog. As a result, a 14-track masterpiece of an album titled Tremonti sings Sinatra was born. And boy, is it outstanding!

Tremonti gifted this album to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) as part of his new organization “Take A Chance For Charity”, with 100% of the album’s proceeds going to NDSS to help people with developmental disabilities. The NDSS is very near and dear to the members of the Tremonti family, their daughter Stella was diagnosed with Down syndrome at an early age. If you would like to find out more about the NDSS and Mark’s “Take A Chance For Charity” click here.

Mark has only performed a handful of these Sinatra shows live, and we were very fortunate to have had one of them right here in this area. He kicked off the evening with a killer version of “Luck Be a Lady”, followed by “Fly Me to the Moon” and other massive Sinatra hits. Tremonti also sprinkled in some lesser-known Sinatra tunes like “Wave” and “Nancy (With The Laughing Face)”.

Throughout the amazing night of music, Tremonti also teased us with the potential of a second Tremonti Sings Sinatra album at some point in the future, which is great news!

In the meantime, go give a listen to Mark’s masterful album Tremonti Sings Sinatra, you’ll be glad you did!
