Today, I’m celebrating National Black Cat Appreciation Day. It is celebrated every year on August 17th. I have a black cat of my own.
I have two cats, as a matter of fact. They are the namesake of my Zero and Hazzard Cat Club. The cat club features all of YOUR cute kitties. We have a ton of cat pictures up on the Cat Club page.
But today, we celebrate all of those who are black. Black Cat Appreciation Day is a day that recognizes the cats that get some pretty negative press. They’re seen as “bad luck,” so a higher proportion of them (than cats of other colors) get abandoned or even worse, abused. I LOVE black cats. They are sleek, striking, and the perfect amount of spooky.
National Black Cat Appreciation Day got created to help dispel the rumors and rumblings about these adorable guys. Black cats are no more mean or horrible than other cats. If anything, I heard orange tabbies are the crazy ones! I love all cats equally, but I have a special place in my heart for black cats.
My cat, Zero, is named after Jack Skellington’s dog in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Zero’s coat is all black, and he’s got some majestic eyes. Hazzard, on the other hand, is a tuxedo cat. He still has black fur, so we celebrate him today, too!
